I know this is nothing new, but it’s still cool.
VMware Fusion Beta 3 running Windows XP SP2 on the wife’s new MacBook.
- Installing VMware: zero hiccups
- Installing XP in virtual machine: no glitches
- Running XP: zero issues
- Installing Office on XP: no problems
I’m sorry, but this rocks.

Yeah. Since the second beta release of the VMWare Fusion for Mac, I’ve just stopped using Parallels. Lovin it.
I find Parallels in Coherence mode has been uber cool. MS Outlook next to my Mac apps = wonderful
What’s to be sorry about? The fact that you need at least 4Gb of memory to make all that work?
Frank: Actually, there’s “only” 2GB of RAM on the Mac. When XP is running I allocate it 512MB. Don’t know how much overhead VMWare takes, but everything is humming along nicely.
But the fact that OS’s are RAM hungry doesn’t make the virtualization magic any less cool. The alternative is for my wife, who wants a Mac but needs Windows, is to buy, manage, and synch two physical machines. And that’s not cool at all.
